Prom Tuxedos
A prom tuxedo is identical to any other tux on the market, the big difference and the reason for this article is to educate and help you make educated decisions when renting your tuxedo or purchasing formal wear for a prom.
For starters, a prom is the short way of saying promenade. A promenade is formal ball held for a school class (based on graduating year) to celebrate the end of the year. Because it takes a great deal of work to have a prom, they are usually reserved for the Junior and Senior classes of High Schools. For Freshmen and Sophomore classes a semi-formal dance is usually held.
Prom Tuxedos Overview
A prom tuxedo is the same as other tuxes used for weddings and black tie events. The big difference is that you only need to match one person. There are generally no rules as to which style you wear. You can do whatever you want. With that said, you still need to follow tuxedo etiquette so you still look "formal" and so that you match your dates attire. Tuxedo Vests and Accessories
When
selecting accessories for your prom tuxedo make sure that you know what
your date is wearing. You don't need to actually see the garment, but
you do need to know what color it is and if you can get a swatch of
fabric (a piece of the fabric directly from the dress) you will be able
to bring it with you to the tuxedo rental and sales shop to assist you
in selecting the appropriate complimenting colors for your formal vest,
tie or tie and cummerbund.
For
instance, if your date is wearing a blue dress, you may wish to select a
blue vest and tie. If your date is wearing a yellow dress, you may wish
to select a yellow vest. Probably not so we are going to get into some
details so you can tell what is appropriate and what is not. For a
visual guide to these colors and options view our list of prom
